Croque Monsieur

croque monsieur recipe : grilled cheese

I am happy to share with you one of the French deepest secret : the Croque-Monsieur Recipe!

The  famous Croque-Monsieur, literally translated as “Crunch-Mister”, is our Parisian grilled-cheese! Made in the oven, with béchamel sauce and a lot of love, this is one of our favorite food for lunch or dinner!

Discover below the Croque-Monsieur recipe and try it! It’s super easy to make!

For 1 Croque-Monsieur
  • 2 Slices of bread
  • Ham
  • Grated Cheese (I use Gruyère)
For the Béchamel sauce
  • Flour (20 gr)
  • Butter (20 gr)
  • Milk (7 fl oz)
  • Grated cheese (As much as you want)
  • Salt & paper (& nutmeg if you like it)
ingredients for the croque monsieur recipe

Prepare the bechamel sauce

  • 1. Melt the butter in a pan.
  • 2. Add the flour and use a whip to mix it with the butter. You should get butter & flour dough.
  • 3. Over a heat source, add little by little the milk and whip (alternate milk and whip) until you get something creamy. Watch out, if you add too much milk at the same time, it will give you something super liquid, so you'll have to heat & whip it a long time until it become creamy.
  • 4. Add the grated cheese (normally in Béchamel sauce, there is no grated cheese, but I can assure you its better with it)
  • 5. Salt, pepper & nutmeg as you like

  • 2. Add some grated cheese
  • 3. Then, a slice of ham
  • 4. Add some Béchamel sauce and the last slice of bread
  • 5. Cover your creation with the rest of Béchamel sauce and some more grated cheese on the top
  • 6. Bake into the preheated oven (375°) for about 20 minutes
  • 7. Take a picture, send it on @hasta_paris instagram and eat!
