Gougères (cheese puffs)

Discover one of the famous snacks, that French people use to eat during the famous apéritif : the Gougère (basically a cheese puff).

The French aperitif is a ritual in France. Having a drink and some snacks before dinner (and sometimes lunch) with family and friends is something we do at least once a week!

Once again this recipe is for the cheese lovers, but what would be France without cheese?

Try the Gougères recipe below and bring some France at home!

For about 50 Gougères
  • Flour (150 gr)
  • Butter (75 gr)
  • Milk (4 fl oz)
  • Water (4 fl oz)
  • Grated cheese (As much as you want)
  • Grated cheese (90 gr)

Prepare the puff dough

  • 1. Melt the butter, salt, milk and water in a pot
  • 2. Add the flour immediately after it starts boiling and mix until you get a dough
  • 3. Over a heat source, dry the dough for 5 minutes in the pot with a wooden spoon (in other words, keep mixing)
  • 4. Let the dough get cold (less than 140°). Then add the eggs one by one and blend in between.
  • 5. Add 2/3 of the cheese
  • 5. Put a little bit of dough on baking paper, cover with some egg yolk and the rest of the grated cheese
  • 6. Bake into the preheated oven (356°) for 18 minutes
  • 7. Take a picture, send it on @hasta_paris instagram and eat!
